Nokia has returned to the mobile device game with its first smartphone in three years – however, it will only be available in China.

The Nokia 6, costing ¥1,699 (£202), will run Android and is the first smartphone to be produced since Finnish company HMD Global secured exclusive Nokia brand licensing rights, for the next decade, in late 2016.

“Just a short while ago we announced the launch of HMD Global. From the outset we have stated that we intend to move with speed to establish a position as a player in the smartphone category and create products that truly meet consumer needs. The Nokia 6 is a result of listening to our consumers…” said Arto Nummela, CEO of HMD Global. “Our ambition is to deliver a premium product, which meets consumer needs at every price point, in every market.”

The phone is described as being manufactured out of aluminium with a 5.5in full HD 2.5D Gorilla Glass screen. It includes the Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor with X6 LTE modem, and runs the Android Nougat operation system. It carries 4GB RAM and 64GB storage, while featuring a 16 megapixel rear camera and eight megapixel front facing camera. The phone is also claimed to deliver six decibels louder sound than a regular amplifier through its dual amplifiers.

The Nokia 6 is said to be arriving in ‘early 2017’ – debuting exclusively through Chinese online retailer JD.com.
