Mobile tech firm Qualcomm is launching its own smartwatch, the Qualcomm Toq. The device will be available on the companys own site, with a pricetag of $349.99, from 2 December – the day known as Cyber Monday in the US.
Its a companion device, requiring a Bluetooth-linked handset running Android 4.0 or above. Users will be able to accept or reject calls, view notifications and access a small selection of applets, including weather updates from AccuWeather and stocks from E*TRADE.
The Toq uses Qualcomms WiPower wireless charging technology and Mirasol low-power reflective display, which utilises ambient light to ensure the screen is clearly viewable in all conditions.
“The Toq smartwatch showcases key Qualcomm innovations, such as Mirasol always on low power display, AllJoyn interactions and WiPower LE wireless charging, that will define the emerging wearable category,” said Qualcomm CEO Paul Jacobs. “Like a traditional watch, Toq displays information at a glance with no on/off switch. And paired with a smartphone to receive notifications and content, it allows the watch to seamlessly merge our physical and digital lives.”
