Wattpad, the global story-sharing community for mobile users, has revealed that it has served over 10 million pages to mobile phones. Developed using Wattpad Mobilize technology, Wattpad says its Story Sharing Community is one of the fastest-growing platforms enabling users to consume user-generated content on mobile phones.
In April 2007, we officially introduced the service for mobile users worldwide to discover, read, and share stories on their mobile phones. We are extremely happy that we grew from zero to 10 million in a very short period of time,” says Wattpad Founder Ivan Yuen. With over 60,000 user-generated stories already available to our community, we have definitely reached critical mass for the next phase of growth. A recent user survey indicates that 93% of our users are satisfied with the user experience. We are very proud to achieve significant growth while maintaining high level of user satisfaction.”
A detailed summary of the survey is available on the Wattpad blog.
Wattpad describes its Story Sharing Community as like the text version of YouTube with a Digg-style system that uses tags, categories and voting to determine the popularity of stories. All stories are contributed by Wattpad users. Joining the community is free. Anyone can sign up and upload whatever he or she wants to share, whether thats a short work of fiction, an essay or a joke, and then read it on the mobile phone using Wattpad Reader, or send it to friends via SMS.
Wattpad Reader is a small, ad-supported Java ME application which enables users to download and read stories available in the Wattpad community. To download Wattpad Reader, go to m.wattpad.com on your mobile phones browser and follow the link to download. Wattpad Reader works with most mobile phones from major manufacturers such as Nokia, Motorola, Sony Ericsson, Samsung, LG, Sharp, Sanyo, Panasonic, BlackBerry and many more.
