Glasgow Flats Get Community Wi-fi

A social housing block in Glasgow’s Knightswood is the first building to benefit from a digital inclusion project that will see residents get a new tablet and internet access for around £5 per month.

The Glasgow Housing Association is the largest provider in the city but only a third of its tenants are currently online. The GHA has plans to ensure all of its tenants have access to the internet and will also be providing digital training sessions. Overall, only half of Glasgows residents have access to broadband, as opposed to 80 per cent across the UK.

The project has received £70,000 of funding from the Scottish Government as part of its Digital Future: Infrastructure Action Plan. The high-speed internet will be provided by BT.
