Soul Candi, a S. African record label and distributor, has announced that it will launch a subscription-based, on-demand music service on all three of the countrys mobile operators. The service will be powered by ROK Radio, a division of UK mobile applications developer ROK Entertainment Group, which will mean that subscribers can listen to just the music they wish to listen to, rather than to whatever is being broadcast at the time.
Subscribers can also instantly buy individual tracks on-demand with the purchased music delivered under data compression and copy-protection, over-the-air, to be stored on the memory card of the subscribers handset.
Set to launch across South African mobile operators Vodacom, MTN and CellC later this month, Soul Candi will initially offer five hours of selected music every week, hosted and mixed by some of the countrys leading DJs, and will be charged at R10.00 (1) per week. The cost to purchase individual tracks has yet to be announced.
Mobile entertainment, whether it be TV or music, demands higher levels of interaction than traditional TV or radio broadcasts” says Soul Candis Harael Salkow, and thats why weve developed this on-demand music for mobiles service with ROK – to give the subscriber what they want, when they want it.”
ROK Entertainment Group CEO Laurence Alexander adds:
Were seeing the mobile consumer being prepared to pay a premium to receive instantly engaging and relevant entertainment, on-demand and were delighted to be working with Soul Candi on deploying this service right across South Africa.”
