Kickstarter Acquires Music Streaming Service Drip

Drip logoKickstarter has made its first ever acquisition: music platform Drip, which was on the brink of closing.

Drip had announced its imminent closure last month before Kickstarter picked the company up for an undisclosed amount (though the circumstances suggest the deal was probably in Kickstarters favour).

Drip, which launched in 2010, is focused on smaller artists, with users paying a monthly subscription to a particular label or artist to gain access to a range of content – a different twist on the kind of crowdfunding offered by Kickstarter.

Under its new parent company, it appears the Drip service will continue to operate as normal, though co-founder Miguel Senquiz will be joining the Kickstarter team.
