T-Mobile’s Polish PTC Network Rolling Out NFC Sims to 14m

Gemalto, a digital security provider, has announced a partnership with T-Mobile to run its sim-based UpTeq NFC service starting in Poland.

The secure Trusted Service Manager platform includes mobile wallet software and can be updated to give its users new services after the sim-cards have been issued.

20 per cent of Poland’s point-of-sale readers – totalling 90,000 – are already contactless. By the end of 2012, PTC customers will be able to user their mobile phones to make payments, access parking systems, loyalty programs and stadium ticketing.

This announcement comes just days after the company was chosen to deliver a similar project for Vodafone.

“Gemalto’s NFC solution provides PTC with the excellent flexibility required to easily ramp up additional mobile contactless service” commented Jean-Claude Deturche, Gemalto senior vice president, mobile financial services.

“The project delivery expertise of our teams is key to the smooth deployment of their NFC program, and our capabilities acquired through several dozens of TSM commercial implementations worldwide will help T-Mobile in tapping the enormous potential of mobile contactless services being deployed in Europe.”
