Taimi and Rakuten Viber partner on a bot to educate people on LGBTQ+ topics

LGBTQ+ dating app, Taimi, has partnered with Rakuten Viber to add a bot to its freeware ecosystem. The bot, powered by Viber’s instant messaging technology, will have two functions. Firstly, to match members of its user base, and secondly, to serve as an educational resource for those who want to know more about the LGBTQ+ community. Viber has over 1bn downloads on Android alone.

Taimi said its aim is twofold. It wants to harness the opportunity to reach over a billion users with answers to questions relating to the LGBTQ+ community. By doing so, it hopes to promote acceptance, advocacy, and better mental and sexual health. Additionally, it said, the partnership is an opportunity to connect Viber users who are part of the LGBTQ+ community with one another. This will be based on compatibility factors in addition to identified sexual orientations.

The educational efforts involve connecting Viber with Taimi’s LGBTQ+ wiki. Viber users will be able to query the bot and receive basic answers to questions on a wide range of topics that are relevant to the queer community. The bot will also provide vocabulary definitions for words and phrases submitted by users.

“Our goal has always been to serve the LGBTQ+ audience,” said says Diana Lysenko, Global Partnerships Lead at Taimi. “This commitment extends far beyond the realm of online dating. By promoting community education, we believe we also promote acceptance and understanding. An educated population is almost always a tolerant one. That makes the world just a bit safer for queer folk of every age.”
