MasterCard App Update Lets Hungarians Pay through QR Codes

Cellum has updated its MasterCard Mobile payment app in Hungary. Developed in cooperation with companies including T-Mobile, Telenor and, of course, MasterCard, the app enables users to combine bank card functions with their smartphone to pay for goods and services.

The update adds the ability to pay by scanning QR codes, which is being picked up by taxi drivers and charities including the Hungarian Red Cross and Baptist Aid.

The app, which has been downloaded 20,000 times since it first launched last autumn in Hungary, is expected to be introduced in several other Central Eastern European countries this year.
