Hockey Site Goes Mobile

Canadian publisher Transcontinental Media is expanding one of its most popular websites, TheHockeyNews.com (THN.com), into mobile, through a partnership with Redboom Solutions. THN.coms rich media mobile site launched today, just in time for the first round of the NHL Playoffs.
The mobile site will bring all of the hallmark features of THN.com blogs, columns, analysis and other regular features to the mobile web and make them available to users around-the-clock, on-demand, and at no cost.
Transcontinental Media says it has opted for a technology solution which allows THN.com visitors to access content on their mobile phones without compromising the design and quality of the wired website. Users can access the site by typing mobile.THN.com into any web-enabled mobile phone.
The company says the mobile site will help THN.com, which already reaches more than 380,000 unique visitors each month, extend its reach, and create an additional source of advertising revenue through new ad placements.
The mobile platform is a natural fit for THN.com, and this deal further extends the reach of the The Hockey News brand, which has been providing the most comprehensive coverage of the world of hockey since 1947, says Caroline Andrews, Publisher, Sports & Entertainment for Transcontinental Media. There is a huge appetite for the hockey news and features that THN.com is famous for delivering, so having a presence on mobile plays perfectly into the behaviour of THN.coms core audience.
