Well, that didnt last long. Elon Musk has listened to Twitter and decided to step down as the companys CEO.
He had set up a poll to ask users if they wanted him to stay on, and 57.5 per cent of them said no thanks.
So now the billionaire owner is on the lookout for someone “foolish enough to take the job”. But he doesnt seem very confident anyone will be. “No one wants the job who can actually keep Twitter alive,” he tweeted.
Its the latest twist in Musks two month stint as owner of the social media site, which has seen lay-offs, controversial feature updates and rows over free speech. Hes even been threatened with sanctions by the EU.
Whoever takes over, it wont change the fact that Musk owns Twitter and is unlikely to sell. He says he will still run the tech and engineering departments after his replacement is found.
While all this drama was happening, Twitter also relaunched its paid-for verification feature. The blue tick subscription service now costs $8 per month, or $11 for people using the Twitter app on Apple devices. Musk has told Twitter staff that he wants subscriptions to account for half of Twitter’s revenues.
