Meta extends Ray-Ban smart glasses collaboration through the next decade

Meta and eyewear giant EssilorLuxottica have revealed plans to continue their collaboration on smart glasses “into the next decade”.

The two companies, who first teamed up in 2019, announced today that they’re extending their partnership, which has already led to the creation of two generations of Ray-Ban smart glasses.

The collaboration has allowed Meta to develop smart glasses with distinctive style. Meta plans to continue this trend in future versions of their frames.

EssilorLuxottica, which owns Ray-Ban, also manages brands like Oakley and holds licensing agreements with luxury labels including Versace, Prada, and Chanel.

“I’m excited about our long term roadmap ahead. We have the opportunity to turn glasses into the next major technology platform, and make it fashionable in the process,” Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a statement.

“Over the past six decades, EssilorLuxottica has led the transformation and modernisation of the eyewear and eyecare industry, positioning among the world’s leading innovators,” added Francesco Milleri, Chairman and CEO of EssilorLuxottica.

“We invest hundreds of millions every year in R&D to create products that improve quality of life for billions of people, and impact how they see the world and each other.

The incredible work we’ve done with Meta, still in its early stages, has already proven to be an important milestone in our journey to making glasses the gateway to the connected world.”
