FOX 59 Puts Traffic Cams on the Mobile

Fox affiliate FOX 59 has launched an innovative free mobile traffic camera service for commuters and residents. The new ad-supported service will benefit the more than 1 million daily commuters in the Indianapolis region. Drivers will now be able to view traffic tie-ups on their mobile devices before leaving their home, office or school, to help them plan the quickest and safest route.
We aim to keep our viewers informed about traffic, on the air, on the Internet and now on the go via their mobile phones, says Jerry Martin, Vice President and General Manager of FOX59/WXIN, a Tribune Broadcasting Company station. This service will help Indianapolis commuters to steer away from traffic jams and arrive at their destination quicker and safer.
FOX59/WXIN is the second Tribune Broadcasting Company station in the country to offer the mobile traffic service. Sister station KHCW-TV in Houston launched the application in December 2007.
The Fox59 Traffic Authority: Mobile service relies on over 60 traffic cameras operated by Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT), and is part of the Intelligent Transportation System. 3rd Dimension, a New York-based mobile marketing and application company, developed and operates the system. Once the application is downloaded by consumers to their handset, drivers can choose to view live traffic images from any of the cameras along their route and can program shortcuts for quick access to their favourites.
The FOX59 Traffic Authority: Mobile application is compatible with data-enabled phones on the Sprint, Verizon Wireless, AT&T and T-Mobile networks, and works with popular smart phones such as the BlackBerry, Palm Treo and the Motorola Q.
To download the video application, commuters have the option to call 877-369-5927 from their handset, go to the FOX 59 website  and request the service by entering their mobile phone number, or head for www.3tcam.com/fox59 on their mobiles web browser.
