Social fundraising platform GoFundMe has launched a native video production studio, which is aimed at using the growth in video consumption to provide deeper look at the stories behind campaigns on its platform.

GoFundMe Studios, which is being led by former GoPro executive Wil Tidman and film director Chris Neil, will produce short-form documentaries, feature-length films, live moments, podcasts, and editorial content related to campaigns. The content will distributed through GoFundMe’s social media channels, and through media and brand partnerships.

“In my career, I have yet to come across so many truly incredible stories as the ones we’ve found on GoFundMe,” said Tidman, executive producer and head of GoFundMe Studios. “GoFundMe Studios will showcase the extraordinary stories of humans changing the world through the simple act of giving. Through a documentary storytelling lens, we aim to inspire our community and the world to turn compassion into action.”

“Now is the time for these stories,” added Neil, executive producer at GoFundMe Studios. “With so much tragic news these days, people are hungry for artfully told, real-life stories that remind us of the transformative power of kindness and compassion.”

The first project released from the studio is nine-minute documentary entitled “Jim Ford, Repo Man”. The short film centres on a repo man named Jim, who sets up a GoFundMe campaign to help an elderly couple whose car he is forced to repossess.

Other projects in pipeline include “This Ends With Me, which is about a former member of the Ku Klux Klan who has been reformed, and “The St. Louis 6” about a group of bulls that escape from a slaughterhouse.
