Intel Selects Siano Mobile TV Chip

Siano Mobile Silicon, which supplies semiconductors for Mobile TV
applications, has revealed that its SMS1000 multi-standard receiver
chip will power Intel MID (Mobile Internet Device) platforms, unveiled
yesterday in a demonstration at Intels Developer Forum (IDF) event in
Beijing.
The MID product category delivers entertainment, communication and
navigation usages enhanced by a rich Internet experience to consumers
in small, ultra-mobile devices.
We are thrilled to be working with Intel on their upcoming MID
platform, as this clearly reflects our leading position in the
industry,” says Siano CEO, Alon Ironi. This advanced platform paves
the way for notebook and consumer electronics manufacturers to provide
end users with multi-channel, high quality TV everywhere.”
Designed for low power consumption, the MID platform will allow
consumers to watch mobile TV for 8 to 20 hours (depending on the
broadcast technology) before their device runs out of battery.
Bringing high quality Mobile TV reception to MIDs is an important
capability as consumers become more media hungry, says Robert DeLine,
Director of Marketing for Intels Ultra Mobility Group. Sianos
SMS1000 provides high quality, wide-coverage Mobile TV, and coupled
with Intels ultra mobile silicon solutions, enables innovative form
factors with long battery life.
Siano says the SMS1000 is the industrys only low-cost,
ultra-low-power, quad-band multi-standard receiver in mass production.
It supports DVB-H, DVB-T, DAB, DAB-IP and T-DMB mobile digital
standards, in various spectrum ranges, from 170MHz up to 1680MHz.
