Lime rolls out app-less scooter rentals

Lime has made it possible for people to rent out its scooters and start riding them without ever having to download or open its app.

The transportation company has used Apple’s App Clips and Android’s Instant App features to enable riders to simply walk up to a scooter, scan the scooter’s QR code with the camera on their smartphone, open up the app clip or instant app, and confirm the ride by agreeing to use either Apple Pay or Google Pay to cover the cost.

The feature has rolled out to riders in cities all over the world.

“This new feature makes Lime more accessible to riders, including those who are new to our platform and haven’t downloaded our app yet,” said Zach Kahn, Senior Product Manager at Lime. “With app-less riding, new riders can try out our service without the process of downloading our app, and regular riders can cut out several steps to quickly start a ride. We know our riders are on the go and we want to get them on their way as seamlessly as possible.”
