Members of the Mobile Marketing Association (MMA) in the US have responded to an initiative led by the Mobile Giving Foundation (MGF) to provide monetary relief to those affected by the recent earthquake in Haiti via the mobile channel.
MMA member companies are working with cause-related organizations such as the Yle Foundation, the leading contributor to rebuilding Haiti founded by Wyclef Jean; the Clinton Foundation; the Red Cross and others to speed relief to those affected by the recent earthquake.
By texting a keyword to a designated short code via a mobile phone, a micro-donation of $5 or $10 can be made to aid the millions of people affected by the tragedy. 100% of each donation goes to the recipient charity, and the donation appears as a charge on the donors mobile bill.
There are full details on the different shortcodes and keywords being run by the various charities here.
Response from the public for mobile-giving campaigns related to Haiti Earthquake Relief has been tremendous, and awareness of the various campaigns continues to grow via social media sites, such as Facebook and Twitter, says Federico Pisani Massamormile, MMA Interim CEO. Our members are to be commended for their rapid response; however, there is still much work to be done, and MMA leadership encourages both our members and the public to continue their support.
As yet, there does not appear to be any UK text donation service in operation to help the vicitims of the Haiti earthquake.
