NGMN Issues Patent Pool RFI

The Board of the Next Generation Mobile Network (NGMN) Alliance is to issue a public Request for Information (RFI) on LTE Patent Pool Administration. The NGMN Alliance is conducting the RFI in order to gather information on potential LTE patent pools for NGMN partners.
The RFI on LTE Patent Pool Administration will be published on the NGMN website (www.ngmn.org) on 3 September, 2009.  Prior to this, all prospective patent pool administrators, that have or have not yet issued a call for LTE patents, are invited to participate in the NGMN RFI process and to indicate their interest until 2 September, to [email protected]
After receipt of responses, each prospective patent pool administrator answering the RFI will also be invited to present its envisaged role in the LTE eco-system to NGMN partner representatives from 14 15 October in Vienna, Austria.
This RFI will continue the successful IPR activities conducted by NGMN in the past two years and will bring more transparency in the next generation mobile eco-system about envisaged patent pool activities, says NGMN Operating Officer, Peter Meissner.
The NGMN Alliance currently consists of 58 global network operators, technology vendors and universities. The network operators represent more than half of all mobile phone users worldwide and technology vendors represent more than 90% of implemented mobile wireless infrastructure. The Alliances key objective is to provide a platform for innovation for mobile broadband communications that enables an exceptional mobile user experience, including cost-effective and user-friendly services, and a range of end user devices such as mobile phones, embedded mobile devices for laptops, games consoles and other consumer electronics devices.
