‘Olympics’ was the most searched term on Yahoo! UK on mobile devices in 2012, ahead of the iPhone 5. Sport dominated the rest of the top 10, with three football clubs, ‘Premier League’ and ‘Euro 2012’ taking five of the remaining eight slots and ‘Wimbledon’ (tennis, not football, we assume), taking another.
The stats come from the Yahoo! UK Year in Review for 2012. ‘Olympics’ also tops a similar list looking at the top searches on Yahoo! overall via any platform, with ‘Kindle’ and ‘Kate Middleton also making the top 10 in this list.

To develop the Yahoo! Year in Review, Yahoo’s editors analyse Yahoo! search queries based on a number of factors, including absolute volume and growth from previous periods, to see which themes and trends bubble to the surface. Individuals and their search queries always remain anonymous. This list is constructed without navigational searches – i.e. searches where the intention is clearly purely to navigate (such as searching for ‘Facebook’ or ‘currency converter’) rather than to discover information.
