Regulator Gives Groupon Three Months to Clean up its Act

Groupon has been criticised by the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) for breaching consumer protection rules with its voucher deals. The UK regulator has given Groupon three months to improve the way it operates, and implement changes to make sure information on discounts and availability are clear and honest.
Undertakings which Groupon will have to enforce include ensuring terms and conditions are fair; clarifying limitations on deals; and applying refund and cancellation rules. Any breach of this agreement could lead to legal action by the OFT.
“As a young and innovative business, Groupon acknowledges that our processes and procedures have not always kept pace with our rapid growth,” says Roy Blanga, Groupon UKs joint managing director. “We regret any complaint that comes in, we regret there has been an investigation. We want to use this opportunity to point out to the public that we have an intrinsic motivation to get it right.”
