Ryanair Launches VoIP Calling App

Budget airline Ryanair has launched a VoIP (Voice over IP) app for iOS and Android that promises cheaper calls for travellers over wi-fi, as opposed to paying roaming charges to their mobile operator.

Ryanair Talk is designed to be used in conjunction with free wi-fi services at hotels, restaurants and airports. It can be used to call any phone; the called number does not need to have the app installed in order to take the call.

A tariff guide on the Ryanair Talk website shows the cost of making calls via the service in almost 200 countries. A £12 top-up buys 120 minutes of calls to landlines and 30 minutes to mobiles in Algeria. The corresponding figures for calls to phones in France are 480 minutes to landlines and 120 minutes to mobiles.

Ryanair Talk users can call anywhere in the RyanairZone – a group of 29 mostly European and Scandinavian countries including all countries that Ryanair flies to – from less than 3 euro cents per minute, with no connection charges.

Users can buy credit via the Ryanair Talk website, or on most Ryanair flights. You can see the tariff guide here.
