Volkswagen to launch all-electric car sharing service next year

Volkswagen We ShareGerman carmaker Volkswagen is set to launch an all-electric car sharing scheme – rolling out first in Berlin with 2,000 vehicles during 2019.

The ‘We Share’ service is the first initiative to be launched out of the ‘Volkswagen We’ digital ecosystem. The first fleet of vehicles in the service will be made up of 1,500 e-Golf vehicles when the service kicks off in the second quarter of 2019, with an additional 500 e-up! vehicles being rolled out later. These vehicles will gradually be replaced by the first models from Volkswagen I.D family from 2020 – the year in which the automaker also expects to rollout in core European markets and select cities in North America.

“We are democratising e-mobility,” said Jürgen Stackmann, Volkswagen brand board member for sales. “From 2020, ’We Share’ is to support the market introduction of the new generation of our new, all-electric I.D. models and thus make a significant contribution to the Volkswagen brand’s e-mobility offensive.”
