EE Partners with Tech City to Improve Network Infrastructure

OLD STREET ROUNDABOUT

A partnership between UK telco EE and East Londons Tech City hub has been officially launched by the Prime Minister.

The partnership will see EE prioritise Tech City for all of future network launches – something its been working towards for a while. EE has invested £3.6m into improving infrastructure in the area, making it the first place to get access to the operators double speed 4G service in July, and is the launchpad for its 300Mbps mobile network.

EE will also, it says, support local small businesses companies to help them better grow and compete on the global tech stage. This includes dedicated offers for these companies, a mentoring programme, and plans to open up EEs APIs in the future.

Shoreditch pop-up shopping centre Boxpark is one of the first companies partnering with EE, offering 300Mbps 4G connectivity to retailers and shoppers alike.

“The world of business is changing rapidly and one of the most promising opportunities for new jobs and growth lies within a new wave of high growth, highly innovative digital businesses,” said Prime Minister David Cameron. “This is why, as part of our plan to help Britain succeed, we established Tech City UK to support the creation of a technology cluster in East London and committed to help these businesses to become cornerstones of our economy.”

EE say it is planning to launch similar partnerships with tech communities across the UK during 2014.
