Samsung Pay Launches on Play Store, Partners with Verizon

samsung paySamsung Pay has arrived on the Google Play Store, unofficially marking its launch in the US.

The app has been available in Samsungs own app store since last month, but Google Play has a much wider reach. Nevertheless, the app still isnt compatible with non-Samsung devices – currently, just four handsets (Galaxy S6, S6 Edge, S6 Edge+ and Note 5) support the payment service.

This isnt the only change since Samsung Pay first went live, either. Samsung has signed up Verizon as partner, meaning its now available for subscribers on the USs five largest operators – the other four AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, US Cellular.

Samsung Pays main USP over competitors like Apple Pay is that it can make payments using not only NFC but EMV and magnetic stripe, meaning its compatible with most existing in-store terminals.
