Apple Pay Usage Down this Black Friday

Apple Pay Black Friday statsApple Pay usage on Black Friday was at its lowest-ever rate, according to data from Infoscout, a consumer purchase data firm in the US.

During the day, just 2.7 per cent of eligible in-store transactions – i.e., those made by owners of a compatible iPhone – were made using Apple Pay, down from 4.9 per cent on Black Friday last year.

Its worth noting, though, that the overall number of transactions is still likely to have been higher this year than last, as the number of iPhone 6 users, and thus eligible transactions, was lower in 2014. Infoscout also points out that last years install base would have included a higher proportion of early adopters.

And mobile payments on iOS are still ahead of Android. Combined, all Android-compatible mobile wallets accounted for just two per cent of eligible purchases, with PayPal beating out the nascent Android Pay and Samsung Pay.
