Bank Holiday Catch Up – US

With the UK celebrating the Queens 60th year on the throne, weve been away from the keyboards since last week, but that hasnt stopped the rest of the world from powering on without us. The US has seen a buzz of mobile activity over the long weekend, including releases, partnerships and record-breaking sales – as well as LAs E3 expo, which well get to in a later post.

First up is mPayments solutions company PayAnywhere, which added two Android SDKs – Basic and Advanced – to its developer library. The free SDKs enable app developers to embed credit card POS functionality into Android apps, to accept and process in-app payments from Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express.

“The handling of credit card transactions and moving money from consumer to merchant is quite an involved and complicated process,” said Gordon Rimac, chief technology officer at PayAnywhere. “Handling payment processing is something PayAnywhere does exceptionally well, and through our SDKs, PayAnywhere is making it very easy to leverage our core business expertise while letting developers stay focused on theirs.”

Online ticket seller Fandango, meanwhile, saw mobile tickets drive a 47 per cent surge in overall tickets sales compared to last year. Mobiles share of ticket sales continued to grow, reaching an all-time high of 28 per cent.“This record-setting May is another sign of the incredible momentum behind Fandango right now,” says Fandango executive vice president and general manager, Rick Butler. “Our enormous network of theater screens and box office share, combined with our innovative mobile and social products, has made Fandango an essential destination for moviegoers everywhere.”

Business apps provider Roambi unveiled its ESX platform, which enables organisations to deliver engaging analytics and multimedia content to iPad users. Using Roambi ESX, business can create interactive, information-rich reports, which can be distributed on the App Store, as co-branded apps.

And finally, the University of Texas University Co-op launched location-based services for its iOS and Android apps using Digbys Localpoint platform, to target users with rich messages and promotions when they are near a University Co-op location, as well enabling customers to check in at the store to receive relevant announcements and offers.

“Our apps and mobile-optimized website have been great value drivers,” says George H. Mitchell, president and CEO of the University Co-op.  “By adding location-based features to our apps, we can increase store traffic, enhance the customer shopping experience, and gain access to valuable in-store analytics and commerce – ultimately allowing us to enable an even stronger, more personal and relevant relationship with our customers.”
