Sport Relief has raised a record £7.9m via mobile donations, through 2.3m SMS donations of £1, £5 and £10. The fundraising was powered by technology from MIG (Mobile Interactive Group), which has worked with Comic Relief since 2009. The platform, MIG says, is specifically designed to support mass participation broadcast events like this.
“2012 has been a record year for mobile donations for Sport Relief, seeing the donation amount from SMS more than double since 2010, clearly demonstrating a huge appetite for SMS donations,” says Sport Relief head of campaign management Helen Puddefoot. “The mobile channel continues to form an extremely important part of our donation strategy, and over the coming months we’re working collaboratively with MIG to develop some exciting new projects for Comic Relief in 2013.”
The charity sees 100 per cent of all cash donated via texts, and will be able to claim an extra 25 per cent from the Government for all donors signed up to Gift Aid online.
