Google has added the ability to transfer money using just a phone number, à la Barclays Pingit, to its Google Wallet app.
When users send money to their contacts through this feature, the recipient is sent a text message containing a secure link, where they can enter their debit card to claim the money.
This is the latest of a number of recent updates to Google Wallet, following the overhaul it received when Android Pay launched. The updates include the ability to link a second bank account, security features to instantly lock the app with a single tap, and improved contact suggestions that serve up the most frequent contacts first.
