Earlier this year, Google launched an app to enable people in India to ask questions to others within their neighbourhood and offer their own local expertise. The app launched in beta in Mumbai, followed by seven other cities. Now, the Neighbourly Q&A app has rolled out to Bangalore and Delhi.

Neighbourly gives users the chance to interact with those around them and provides a way for locals to pose questions to each other, share their own knowledge, and keep up with the latest happenings in the area.

Questions asked in the app are directed to ‘relevant neighbours’ – so information is current and accurate – and these questions appear as cards, which can be swiped through if unsure of the answer. Users are also able to ask questions or give answers via Google’s voice recognition software within the app.

Having taken onboard the feedback received from the eight initial cities, Google has added automatic neighbourhood suggestions, based on where is nearest; the ability to switch between neighbourhoods for those that live and work in two different locations; advice on how to get more responses to questions; and rewarding the ‘most helpful’ users in a neighbourhood with ‘Top Neighbour’ status, meaning they can help pick questions and identify ones that fall short of the rules.

The Neighbourly app is only available via Google Play for smartphones running Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean) or higher. Google says the app will be open to people in Chennai, Hyderabad, Pune, Kolkata, Chandigarh, Lucknow, Indore, and other cities over the next few weeks.
