IMAX Opens VR Centre to Make You Part of the Movies

IMAX VR CentreIMAX has unveiled its first VR installation in Los Angeles, described as being “a mind-shattering VR experience with insanely immersive visuals and 360 sound that will launch you and your friends into virtual worlds more realistic than anything youve ever imagined”.

As reported by UploadVR, the installation is comprised of 14 pods that are equipped with the latest VR technology. Each pod is fitted with either an HTC Vive VR headset or a Star VR headset from Starbreeze, along with D-box cinema chairs, Subpacs and various control devices – such as gun controllers.

IMAX has teamed up with the likes of Sony, Lionsgate and Ubisoft to feature content from John Wick Chronicles, Star Wars, and more. In the pods, people are given the opportunity to “take down an invading force. Slay zombies. Face off against a Sith lord. Get revenge on the criminals who killed your dog. All while your friends try to beat your high score.”

For the time being, the IMAX VR location in LA is a pilot. However, four more installations have been agreed to across the US and China – all due to open in the coming months.
