Mobile Traffic Dwarfs Desktop Clicks on Newspaper Websites

New figures from the National Readership Survey (NRS) show that mobile is making a huge contribution to newspapers online traffic figures. Most national newspapers have twice as many readers on mobile as they do on desktop, the report finds.

In the case of the Mirror, mobile users provide four times the traffic that desktop users contribute.

The circulation body has changed its methodology when it comes to measuring online traffic, allowing more mobile readers to be included in the figures, reports Press Gazette.

The mobile numbers come from a survey conducted by Comscore for the NRS measuring traffic in November 2015.

According to the survey, The Daily Mail maintains its position as the most-read newspaper in both print and online, with 63 per cent of its online traffic coming from mobile devices, according the the NRS.

The Sun, which operates its website behind a paywall, is down in 7th place. 56 per cent of its 4.1m online readers in November 2015 originated from mobile.
