The Singaporean media company and mobile operator StarHub is working with mobile transaction provider C-SAM to offer an NFC ticket purchase and redemption service within its app.

The update to its SmartWallet enables users to purchase tickets from the Shaw Theatres cinema chain with NFC-enabled phones and then redeem them with a single tap on a contactless reader at the venue.

SmartWallet offers three contactless ways to pay: credit card, pre-paid card and an ePurse transit card. The SmartWallet already offered single-tap NFC payments and lifestyle services.

“When we launched SmartWallet late last year, StarHub mobile customers were the first in Singapore to enjoy the benefits of making secure contactless payment and redeeming digital coupons conveniently at partner merchants across Singapore,” said Yeong Mun-Ling, VP of business strategy at StarHub.

“To offer them greater convenience, we are pleased to enhance SmartWallet with the world’s first comprehensive NFC-based movie ticketing service, allowing StarHub Mobile customers to browse and book the available show times at their favourite Shaw Theatres anytime, anywhere, as well as collect movie tickets with a single tap of their NFC-enabled smartphone.”
