Taylor Swift returns her entire back catalogue to all streaming services

Taylor SwiftMulti-platinum international pop star Taylor Swift has decided to make her albums available on all streaming services – including Spotify, Amazon Music and Google Play – three years after removing her discography from Spotify.

Swift’s management team announced that the decision was made to celebrate her 1989 album surpassing 10m sales worldwide, as well as the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) announcing her 100m Song Certifications.

Despite the reason given by Swift’s team, many believe that the decision is based on the fact that her long-time rival Katy Perry has her new album out today (9 June), and the release of all of Swift’s music could have potentially taken the spotlight away from this.

After the removal of her music from Spotify, Swift had previously only made it available to Apple Music and Jay Z’s Tidal. Despite this, she did remove her 1989 album from Apple Music in 2015, after a dispute surrounding its royalties policy. This led to Apple quickly updating its policies, and the album was back on the platform swiftly – pun intended.

Since their dispute, Swift and Apple have enjoyed a productive business relationship. In December 2015, Apple won the exclusive rights to release a concert video Taylor Swift’s world tour. This was followed by an Apple Music ad campaign that featured the pop star, which started in April 2016.
