Three New iPads Penned for 2017 Release

Student-on-tablet-iPad-school-university.jpgApple has plans to release three new iPads this year – according to a note by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo at KGI Securities, reports 9to5Mac. The 12.9in, 10-10.5in and 9.7in models are expected to arrive in second quarter of 2017.

Kuo explains that the 12.9in model will be the second generation of the existing 12.9in iPad Pro and the 10-10.5in device will be a high-end model, while the 9.7in option will be a lower-priced option. Kuo believes the 10-10.5in and 9.7in models will help narrow the fall in iPad shipments.

The note continues saying: “Although we estimate iPad shipments in 2017 will drop again year on year to 35-37m units, we expect the decline to narrow to 10 per cent from 2016’s roughly 20 per cent, given that the 10-10.5in model may see more demand from commercial/enterprises and tender markets, while the low-priced 9.7in model may have a greater shipment contribution and likely account for 50-60 per cent of total shipments of new iPads.”

Samsung is expected to be the biggest winner with the release of the new iPads, as its A9 chip is featured in the lower-priced device.

Kuo says: “Among DDI suppliers of the new iPad models, new entrant Samsung LSI (KR) is the biggest winner”.
