WorldRemit integrates Android Pay for international money transfers

WorldRemitDigital money transfer service WorldRemit has added Android Pay to its service, offering people another way to carry out peer-to-peer (P2P) cash transfers across the world using mobile money accounts.

Through Android Pay, WordRemit customers will be able to transfer money across continents in a few taps, without the need to enter credit card or 3DS details. Payments are sent with a virtual account number.

“Currently 60 per cent of WorldRemit app users are on Android, which is also by far the most popular mobile operating system in the developing world, where 2bn people are still unbanked, but critically half a billion use their mobiles as a bank account,” said Alice Newton-Rex, VP of product at WorldRemit. “This integration with Android Pay is the next logical step of our mobile first approach, and continues our commitment to providing greater financial inclusion.’’

The new addition will enable Android Pay to send money to more than 112m mobile money accounts. It will add to the 600,000 transactions WorldRemit users already make every month, and open it up to even more countries than the over 50 it is already used in to send money to more than 140 destinations.
