Amazon Pulls Wallet App from Stores

Amazon WalletAmazon has pulled its Amazon Wallet app from Google Play, as well as its own App Store.

Amazon Wallet launched in beta last July, with a focus on loyalty and gift cards, rather than mobile payments, with no way to use credit or debit cards.

Before it was pulled, the app had between 10,000 and 50,000 downloads on Google Play and an average user rating of 3.7/5. On Amazons own store, its rating was 3.1, with users complaining about the lack of features and incompatibility with retailers systems.

The move follows reports that Google is looking to redouble its own efforts in the mobile payments space with a potential acquisition of Softcard, the mobile wallet joint venture founded by US operators AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile, formerly known as Isis.
