Poynt Hits 10m Unique Users

Local mobile advertising app Poynt has reported that it has now been downloaded and used on over 10m devices.

The app, which is available for iOS, Android, Windows Phone, Nokia, BlackBerry, and the PlayBook tablet reached its ten-millionth unique user on 17 September. The app launched in 2008.

The Poynt app provides contextual advertising to users performing local queries, and its revenue model is based on user queries, page views, advertising and transactions within the app. Each user query generates several page views, which are monetised through display advertising and sponsored listings paid for by advertisers. Advertising placements generate revenues on a cost per thousand impressions (CPM) basis or on a cost per click (CPC) basis. Transactions, such as ticket sales and restaurant reservations, also contribute to revenues on a fee for service basis.

“Our position in the mobile application space has become increasingly strong,” says Andrew Osis, president and CEO at Poynt Corp. “10m users and growing is key to Poynts expanding the number of advertisers and strengthening the apps mobile commerce offerings, such as daily deals and mobile couponing. As Poynt becomes available across more geographies and devices, we anticipate a significant acceleration in user numbers and associated revenues.”
