Open source solutions firm Red Hat has announced a strategic alliance with Samsung Electronics America. The alliance will draw upon the breadth of Samsungs mobile device portfolio and Red Hats open source middleware, mobile and cloud technologies, to deliver mobile solutions that enable rapid development and integration of enterprise applications for organizations moving toward a mobile-first strategy. The initial phase of the alliance will be focused in the US.

In addition to joint go-to-market activities and integrated support services, the companies will jointly develop a series of industry-specific mobile business apps that will run on Red Hat infrastructure and be optimised for Samsung devices. These apps will address key workforce management and business tasks, such as business intelligence, field and customer service, inventory management and sales catalogue, pricing, ordering, and invoicing.

The apps will be designed so that they can optionally be customized and tailored to fit the needs of an organization’s unique needs. They will run on Android and other operating environments via the Red Hat Mobile Application Platform, and will be configurable to integrate into common enterprise back-end systems.

The companies will also collaborate on a a developer ecosystem of tools and resources to build and nurture a new ecosystem of enterprise partners and developers to promote rapid innovation and availability of solutions that meet both current and emerging needs in mobility.

There will also be integrated support services for customers and partners, Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM), and global delivery and support services for the Red Hat Mobile Application Platform. The companies said they also plan to actively engage in joint go-to-market activities for the solutions developed through the alliance.

“Effective and successful enterprise mobility strategies take into account both platforms and devices, and how they come together to help enable powerful end-to-end mobile solutions,” said Craig Muzilla, senior vice president, application platforms business, at Red Hat. “We believe deeply in the power of collaboration, and were excited to join with Samsung in not only delivering a new generation of mobile solutions for the enterprise, but in empowering customers to achieve new levels of innovation in mobile.”
