Advertising technology company Adbrain has raised $7.5m (£4.5m) in Series A funding.

The funding round was led by Octopus Investments, along with existing investors Notion Capital.

Adbrain launched its programmatic mobile audience buying platform in private beta last month, signing up agency partners including M&C Saatchi Mobile, Fetch and Somo.

“Adbrain has won the backing of investors and advertisers by creating a truly transparent advertising platform in an industry accustomed to black-box and managed-service solutions,” said Adbrain CEO Gareth Davies. “By effectively responding to consumers’ new multi-screen habits and the rapid spread of connected devices, we are defining the future of advertising.

The company says it will use the money to accelerate its ongoing expansion in the US and Europe, and to grow its engineering, big data and artificial intelligence teams.
