Intelligent mobile analytics and ad verification company adeven has launched Apptrace, a free resource which analyses more than 300m data points on a daily basis. Apptrace is aimed at publishers and developers who want to understand the iOS app ecosystem in detail to help them make informed decisions about their own releases.
And what better way to demonstrate the abilities of the resource than a quick run-through of some of the insights its already been used to dig up?
Approximately two thirds of apps – thats around 400,000 – are adeven has termed app zombies. That means they have zero visibility – they dont appear on the list when searching the App Store on an iPhone or iPad – and hold no position on the App Store.
Of the top 1,000 games apps in the US, 47 per cent are free. The number of new apps launching hasnt increased hugely – 26,646 in June 2012 compared to 20,213 a year earlier – but the proportion which are free certainly has – 17,317 in June 2012, versus 10,841 in 2011. Apptrace has also found there are currently an overwhelming 1,899 flashlight apps on the market.
