Android Instant Apps have Arrived for Limited Testing

android-900Google is introducing Android Instant Apps, which it first previewed at last year’s Google I/O conference, in a limited test.

Instant Apps enables Android apps to run instantly, without the need for installation, when the user taps on a URL. The limited test will include apps from BuzzFeed, Wish, Periscore, and Viki.

Developers, once they have updated their existing Android app, will be able to modularise their app ‘so it can be downloaded and run on-the-fly’.  Google says the full SDK will be available in the coming months.

“We’ve been working with a small number of developers to refine the user and developer experiences,” said Aurash Mahbod, software engineer at Google play, in a blog post. “By collecting user feedback and iterating on the product, we’ll be able to expand the experience to more apps and more users.”

He continued: “There has already been a tremendous amount of interest in Instant Apps from thousands of developers.”
