Apple has launched peer-to-peer (P2P) payments in public beta, enabling users to send money to their friends and family through Messages using Apple Pay.

Apple Pay Cash is part of the latest iOS 11.2 public beta, which can be installed via the iOS Public Beta program. Once installed, or updated, an Apple Pay button appears in the apps section of Messages. Through this button a payment can be initiated, though payments can also be triggered by asking for money in a message or tapping a message sent by someone else asking for money, according to TechCrunch.

Payments can be made on the Venmo-like service via debit or credit cards already setup in Apple Pay. Debit card transactions are free, but credit card payments have a transaction fee added. According to CNET, Money transferred will be available to use immediately or transferred into a bank account with the traditional short waiting period.

The beta is only available to people in the US running the iOS 11.2 beta with two-factor authentication setup on their Apple ID. Payments can also be initiated through Siri and Contacts also.
