After iOS 8s bug-laden launch, pulled updates and various teething problems, Apple is aiming to stamp out any further issues with its first-ever public beta for iOS 8.3 next month.
Following the success of the OS X Public Beta program last year, Apple will be launching the upcoming iOS 8.3 via its existing AppleSeed program in mid-March, according to 9to5mac.
The OS X Yosemite beta test was available to the first 1m people who registered their interest at Apple, and the firm has said it will continue to release early content to these users, such as the upcoming 10.10.3 with new iCloud-based Photos application.
The iOS public beta release will join the third iOS 8.3 beta being released to developers, which is also planned for release in the middle of March. Apple will likely release to a smaller number than the OS X test, with sources saying it will be limited to 100,000 people.
Perhaps more significantly, it is thought that Apple will announce a late-summer public beta for iOS 9, likely to be announced at Junes Worldwide Developer Conference, before the final release in the autumn of 2015.
Apple has come under heavy criticism following the botches release of iOS 8 and its first few updates, which resulted in many of the heavily-promoted features being stripped out initially, as well as bugs like gambling and dating apps appearing in the Kids section of the App Store.
