Social neworking site ScanMe, which uses personalised QR codes to link to profiles, has released an iOS app to set up users pages and generate their QR code. The free app also incorporates all-purpose barcode scanning functionality.
When scanned, the codes lead to a page with the users contact details, including telephone numbers and email addresses, but also Twitter and Facebook profiles. Using the app, if QR codes are scanned while offline, they can be stored in the history.
“It’s not essential to have the app to join the barcode revolution,” says John Harrison, co-founder of ScanMe. “We already have over 150,000 accounts and have created over 500,000 QR barcodes via the website – some of which have been created for businesses, and are being included on marketing material and business cards. We also have a range of interactive merchandise such as t-shirts that our members can have their barcode printed on. But the ScanMe Barcode app simplifies the experience for new users, has many useful features that are convenient on the go, and is free. It’s a no-brainer!”
