Blippar founder registers Augmented Reality Labs company

Blippar ran a number of high-profile campaign forbig-name brands

Ambarish Mitra, CEO and co-founder of failed augmented reality firm Blippar, is getting back into the AR business through a new venture called Augmented Reality Labs, Business Insider reports.

Mitra registered the firm on Monday and is currently the only person listed as an officer at the company. In the company filing, Augmented Reality Labs describes its activities as ‘information technology consultancy’. It’s possible that Mitra may have acquired some of Blippar’s assets in a bid to make a success of the venture second time around.

Blippar went into administration the week before Christmas after a row between investors prevented it tapping into funding that may have seen it through the money problems it was experiencing.

It was an inglorious end for a company that had been the poster child for AR tech, attracting more than $130m in funding, and some big clients such as Cadbury, Heinz, Walkers Crisps and Domino’s.
