BMW is bringing Siri and Samsung S Voice integration to its 2014 models, via the ConnectedDrive in-car system. The latest update to BMW iDrive will enable drivers to access features of a paired device via the voice command controls.
The ConnectedDrive system, which works using a SIM card installed in the vehicle, features a variety of other functions, including navigation, BMW Assist – which provides the automatic emergency call system which will become mandatory for all EU vehicles from 2015 – and a host of third-party BMW Apps, which will be bolstered by the addition of Audible, Rhapsody and TuneIn soon.
Its worth noting that BMW Apps integration is currently only available for iOS devices, though Android compatibility is promised later this year.
BMW ConnectedDrive services are available in 11 countries, with 14 more being added over the course of 2013. BMW says it intends to have 5bn cars linked via ConnectedDrive globally by 2017.
