BMW, Intel and Mobileye have welcomed automotive parts manufacturer Delphi into their self-driving partnership, as they aim to bring a ‘highly and fully automated driving system for serial production by 2021’.

Delphi joins the group as a systems integrator and development partner. It will use its experience in automated driving and system integration to aid the development and deployment of the planned self-driving technology.  

“This is a great opportunity for Delphi to use its technical depth and experience in automated driving and electrical architecture to help the cooperation partners develop and deploy at scale,” said Kevin Clark, president and CEO of Delphi. “Our close working relationship with all three partners serves as a solid foundation for a success.”

Delphi will work to integrate the partners’ solution into ‘various OEM vehicle architectures’, as well as provide software and hardware components. However, the agreement between Delphi and the other three companies is non-exclusive.

Earlier this year, BMW, Intel and Mobileye announced their intention to bring a fleet of 40 self-driving cars to the roads by the second half of 2017.
