Boeing buys aviation app software firm ForeFlight

PlaneAircraft manufacturer Boeing has completed the acquisition of ForeFlight, a Houston-based provider of mobile and web-based aviation applications. The terms of the acquisition have not been disclosed.

Boeing and ForeFlight, which has around 180 employees, have partnered for the past two years in order to bring Jeppesen’s aeronautical data and charts to aviators via ForeFlight’s mobile platforms. The acquisition will see the teams integrate to provide an expanded range of digital solutions for the aviation industry.

“We are excited to build on ForeFlights tremendous success in personal, business and defence aviation so we can provide next-generation, integrated tools to our aviation customers today,” said Ken Sain, VP of digital solutions and analytics at Boeing. “This acquisition also expands Boeings rapidly growing, unparalleled digital services portfolio which will enable us to compete and win in the $2.8 trillion, 10-year services market.”

Tyson Weihs, co-founder and CEO of ForeFlight, added: “We are inspired by the future built at Boeing and what our teams will be able to create by coming together,”. “Our companies share a passion for delivering customers the essential tools that drive efficiency, productivity, and safety.”
