Cisco is reportedly planning a second round of layoffs this year, affecting around 4,000 employees.
The move comes as the company aims to focus more on AI, Reuters revealed.
According to publication, this new wave of job cuts may be announced next week and is expected to impact a similar number of employees as the 4,000 laid off in February.
Sources cited by Reuters indicate that the layoffs could coincide with Cisco’s upcoming announcement of its fourth quarter 2024 financial results on 14 August.
Based in San Jose, California, the networking giant employed approximately 85,000 people as of July 2023.
Following the February layoffs, which affected around 4,250 employees, the company would be left with just over 80,000 employees globally.
In February, Cisco revealed plans to lay off about 5% of its workforce, equivalent to roughly 4,250 employees.
This decision was attributed to increased caution in product ordering during its fiscal second quarter of 2024, leading to a decline in product revenues.
