Epic Games and Telefónica partner to expand mobile access

Epic Games has announced a long-term partnership with Telefónica.

This alliance aims to make the Epic Games Store and its popular titles more accessible to millions of Android users across Telefónica’s extensive network.

As the first step in this collaboration, the Epic Games Store will come pre-installed on new, compatible Android devices within Telefónica’s network in Spain, the UK, Germany, and Spanish-speaking Latin America.

The partnership builds on a strong foundation. Telefónica was the first carrier to introduce Direct Carrier Billing for the Epic Games Store, simplifying in-game purchases.

Additionally, during the pandemic, the two companies created the O2 Arena music experience in Fortnite, which attracted over 10.8 million players.

This strategic move aims to disrupt traditional app marketplaces and provide a more competitive ecosystem for Android gamers, empowering them with new choices and enriched experiences.

Lorena Itziar Senador-Gómez Lázaro, Telefónica’s Director of Partnerships and Devices, said “With this collaboration with Epic Games we strengthen our relationship and go one step further in delivering high-quality, accessible and innovative digital experiences to our customers.”

Michael Modon, Senior Director of Growth Partnerships for Epic Games, said “Thanks to our partnership with Telefónica, players will now be able to access the Epic Games Store, Fortnite and soon games from third party developers directly on their Android device. We look forward to expanding our collaboration with Telefónica to bring even more benefits to players.”
